So I’ve been in Mexico for over a month now and I this is my first blog. I’m pretty sure were on week 5 out of 8. So here’s a recap on the first few weeks of what’s been happen a little bit down here in the land where the moustaches roam freely.
We started out with 3 or 4 days of solitude, which was tough because everywhere I went, there was someone there. To fill you guys in on what solitude is, that’s when you just get away from everything and devote time to spending it with God, reading, praying, journaling, and speaking out loud to God. We’ve been learning some organic gardening which is so awesome and makes you feel like crap when you think about all the food you’ve wasted when you could have made a compost pile! We’ve expanded our minds with theology and learning and discussing deeply, ways the church needs to change and then how are we, the next generation, going to bring the church to where Christ intentionally wanted it. Were not church bashing and I know there are plenty of good church institutions our there but we mean how to change the church as the body of Christ not the institution. We’ve been learning a lot about what it means to have an authentic community, which is so great to be in. We just speak truth and life into each other, us guys have Happy Shower Time, and we do the dishes and serve each other. But it’s not about our actions but about authentic love for each other. After the first week, I knew I would be taking so much back home.
Our days are so busy, but they’re great. It usually starts out with waking up at 7 am for some sweet team exercise, then teaching and ministry in the community, from construction projects to relational building, and then what ever God leads us to. Each team has a family that we go visit and do ministry with. My team’s family (Mari, the mother) is a tough cookie to crack, but her 4 kids are some crazy animals and its great to be an idiot infront of the and not even speak the same language. I can’t really say what we do day to day, except for walking in the Spirit. Which I’ve never experienced the Holy Spirit in such ways. I’ll get a little deeper later, but things are great and I am living the life for sure. So keep praying and seeking the Father’s will. Please don’t pray for safety, just pray for Gods protection in all teh dangerous stuff He’s leading us into.
Marshy,
I’m happy to here that your experiencing the Spirit in a new way. I like the mentioning of organic gardening; my advanced writing class has a nature emphasis and It’s opened my mind a lot to environmental conservation and such. I can share more about that later and how I feel it plays into God’s story.
I must be going to class now though. I pray the best for you and your team and that the Spirit just continue to move through you and show you new things. Peace and God bless brother.
